SC stays HC order on MP Liton`s surrender

The Supreme Court on Wednesday issued a stay order on High Court order that had asked Manzurul Islam Liton to surrender before a lower court by Oct 18. So, Liton can now be arrested said prosecution lawyer.

Chamber judge of the Appellate Division Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain stayed the HC order for a week in the two cases filed against him for shooting a 10-year-old boy and looting and vandalising a house soon after the incident.

The judge came up with the order after accepting two petitions filed by the government seeking a stay on the HC’s surrender order.

Following the SC order, Attorney General Mahbubey Alam told reporters that there is no legal bar for law enforcers to arrest Liton in connection with two cases.

Liton’s lawyer Moksedul Islam said his client will surrender before the lower court very soon.
