BNP disappointed over lack of polls roadmap in CA’s statement

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir expressed deep disappointment on Wednesday over the statement made by the Chief Adviser on Tuesday, noting that it lacked any mention of an election roadmap.
Speaking after paying respects at the grave of late President Ziaur Rahman in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, Dhaka, Mirza Fakhrul said, “The statement that the election will be held between December and June is vague and extremely unclear. That is a six-month window, yet no roadmap has been provided.”
He reiterated BNP’s demand for a clear election roadmap and an immediate election, stating, “We have repeatedly emphasised that a transparent roadmap is essential. Without it, the ongoing crises will not be resolved.”
Mirza Fakhrul further clarified that BNP’s call for elections is not aimed at securing power but is driven by national interest. “BNP is advocating for elections to safeguard the nation and protect its independence and sovereignty,” he said.
He urged the interim government to implement necessary electoral reforms and promptly announce the election schedule.
Expressing disappointment over the Chief Adviser’s speech, he remarked, “He did not once mention the name of the proclaimer of independence, martyred President Ziaur Rahman, Bir Uttam. This is part of history.”
Earlier in the morning, at around 9:30 AM, Mirza Fakhrul, accompanied by BNP Standing Committee member Mirza Abbas and thousands of party leaders and activists, visited Ziaur Rahman’s grave. They placed floral tributes and recited Fatiha in his memory.
