BNP should feel ashamed over attack on Masud: Sarjis

Sarjis Alam, chief organizer of the northern region of the National Citizen Party (NCP), stated that the BNP should feel ashamed over the recent attack on Abdul Hannan Masud, the party’s senior joint chief coordinator in Hatia, Noakhali.
He made these remarks in a post on his verified Facebook account at 9:30 am on Tuesday, March 25.
Sarjis wrote, "Yesterday, my colleague Abdul Hannan Masud was attacked by some BNP leaders and activists. BNP should feel ashamed of this incident."
He further commented, "Over the past 16 years, under an autocratic regime, the BNP has been the largest victim of injustice and oppression as a political party. Through the fearless, uncompromising and courageous efforts of youths like Hannan Masud, along with the united struggle of students and the general public, BNP and other political parties in Bangladesh have been freed from the grip of autocratic misrule."
"This sense of gratitude should always be maintained by the BNP and other political parties. Currently, the BNP is the largest political party in Bangladesh. Therefore, their responsibilities, accountability, and political activities should be most significant."
Sarjis Alam went on to say, "BNP should communicate with its leaders and activists across the country to summarise the injustices, oppression, and persecution they have suffered over the past 16 years simply for being an opposition party. They should also provide a clear account of the injustices and misdeeds committed by the Awami League during these years and the consequences they have faced. This would help BNP members to better understand the current political scenario and anticipate future outcomes."
He continued, "Politically, Bangladesh is no longer where it was a decade ago. What once took 15 years to happen might now take only five years, or perhaps even less. This generation is politically aware and active. Therefore, BNP comrades should take this generation and the current political climate more seriously."
"I demand the swift arrest and trial of those who carried out this attack on one of the key architects of the uprising in a terrorist manner," he concluded.
