Trinamool BNP Chairperson Shamsher Mobin Chowdhury has been released from jail after nearly five months.

He walked out of Dhaka Central Jail in Keraniganj at 9:55 pm on Monday (March 24), confirmed jailer AKM Masum.

Shamsher Mobin was granted bail in two murder cases—one by the High Court and the other by the Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s Court.

The former foreign secretary was arrested on October 17 last year. The day after his arrest, he was shown as an accused in the murder case of Juba Dal leader Shamim Mollah, filed at Paltan Police Station, and subsequently sent to jail. Later, he was also implicated in another murder case involving Parvez Miah, filed at Jatrabari Police Station.

Shamsher Mobin was previously a vice-chairman of the BNP. In 2015, he resigned from all positions within the party. Later, in 2018, he joined Bikalpa Dhara Bangladesh, led by former President AQM Badruddoza Chowdhury.

Ahead of the January 7, 2024, national elections, he became the chairperson of Trinamool BNP in September 2023. The party was founded by the late Nazmul Huda and received registration from the Election Commission before the last general elections.
