A Dhaka court has acquitted BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman, former state minister for home affairs Lutfozzaman Babar, and six others in a Tk 21 crore bribery case related to the murder of Humayun Kabir Sabbir, a director of Bashundhara Group.
Judge Md Abu Taher of Dhaka Special Judges’ Court-3 passed the order on Thursday.
The six others acquitted in the case are Miah Nur Uddin Apu, the then APS of Tarique Rahman; Kazi Salimul Haque Kamal; Bashundhara Group chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan and his two sons, Shafiat Sobhan Sanveer and Sadat Sobhan; and Abu Sufian.
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed the case with Ramna Police Station in Dhaka on October 4, 2007, against them in connection with the murder of Humayun Kabir Sabbir in July 2006. The case alleged that the accused took and accepted bribes to suppress the murder investigation.
