Nahid Islam, the convener of the National Citizen Party (NCP), has said that a new constitution and a constituent assembly election are essential for building a new republic. He made this statement after paying tribute to the martyrs at the National Memorial in Savar on Tuesday morning.

Speaking to the media, Nahid emphasized the need for the swift trial of those responsible for the July massacre. He also mentioned that any political decisions regarding the Awami League would be made through judicial processes in Bangladesh. Nahid further pointed out that it is impossible to build a new Bangladesh while retaining the old constitution.

Nahid demanded the immediate implementation of the July Accord and the July Declaration through national dialogue.

During the event, the party’s secretary, Akhtar Hossain, highlighted the importance of initiating a centrist political approach without dividing into right and left-wing factions.

Earlier, party leaders and activists paid floral tributes at the National Memorial in Savar, after which they stood in silence for a while.

Along with Nahid Islam and Akhtar Hossain, the tribute ceremony was attended by party leaders and activists, including Nasiruddin Patwary, Abdul Hannan Masud, Samantha Sharmin, Ariful Islam, Tasnim Zara, Hasnat Abdullah, Sarjis Alam, and leaders from various districts and upazilas.
