Smokescreen being created over reforms, local polls: Tarique

Tarique Rahman, Acting Chairman of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), said on Thursday that a smokescreen is being created in front of the public regarding the issues of reforms and local elections.
He urged farmers, workers, ulemas, and people from all walks of life to remain cautious of the conspiracy to undermine national unity and the environment for national elections.
He further stated, 'The conspiracy of those who sought to turn Bangladesh into a subservient state is still ongoing.'
Tarique Rahman made these remarks while delivering the inaugural speech virtually from London at BNP's extended meeting, held at the ground adjacent to the LD Hall of the National Parliament at 11:00 am on Thursday (February 27).
The Acting Chairman of BNP stated that pro-democracy people believe holding local elections would serve as a process to rehabilitate the accomplices of fleeing dictators nationwide, which goes directly against the aspirations of the mass uprising. BNP will not fall into the trap of rehabilitating mafia groups involved in genocide, money laundering, and corruption.
He urged the interim government to withdraw from its plan to hold local elections aimed at rehabilitating mafia groups who are accomplices of mass murderers across the country. He also called on the interim government to immediately announce a clear roadmap for its future course of action.
