Murder plot: Anti-discrimination Student Movement expels Rangpur organiser
Tanjim Alam Tasin

The Anti-discrimination Student Movement has expelled its Rangpur district organiser, Tanjim Alam Tasin, over allegations of plotting to murder two key members of the organisation.

The decision was announced late Friday night in a notice signed by Rifat Hasan, the movement’s chief organiser in the district.

The notice said: “Following the emergence of a call recording revealing a plan to assassinate Rangpur district convener Imran Ahmed and member secretary Dr Ashfaq Ahmed Jamil, district organiser Tanjim Alam Tasin has been expelled from the Anti-discrimination Student Movement. Post-expulsion, the organisation severs all ties with him.”

Imran Ahmed, the targeted convener, offered a cryptic response when contacted: “An outspoken enemy is better than a silent ally. That’s all I’ll say for now.”

The controversy erupted within a movement that has been steadily organising across Bangladesh.

Last November 24, a 155-member convening committee was established in Rangpur to strengthen its district-level structure, drawing students from various educational institutions.

Approved for a six-month term via a notification from national convener Hasnat Abdullah and member secretary Arif Sohel, the committee named Imran Ahmed, a Carmichael College student, as convener, and Dr Ashfaq Ahmed Jamil of Rangpur Medical College as member secretary.
