Ex-social welfare minister Nuruzzaman on 5-day remand

A court in Rangpur on Friday morning, January 31, placed former Social Welfare Minister Nuruzzaman Ahmed on a five-day remand in a case over the murder of a man during the Anti-Discrimination Students Movement in the district.
Rangpur Metropolitan Magistrate Court-3 Judge Debi Rani passed the order after the police produced him before the court, seeking a 15-day remand, said Mostafizur Rahman, investigation officer of the case and sub-inspector of Kotwali police station.
The police arrested Nuruzzaman from a relative’s house in Post Office colony of Central Road in Rangpur city on Thursday night, January 30.
He is an accused in a case filed over the murder of one Mahmudul Hasan Munna during the Anti-Discrimination Students Movement in Rangpur. Besides, there are multiple cases against him in Lalmonirhat.
Nuruzzaman Ahmed was state minister, and minister in two terms of fallen Awami League government.
In the 2024 general election, he was elected MP from Lalmonirhat-2 (Kaliganj-Aditmari) constituency with Awami League’s nomination.
