BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Tuesday called on the interim government to quickly prepare for the upcoming elections.

Fakhrul stated that it is possible to prepare the voter list within a month and that the national parliamentary elections could be organised by mid-year.

He made these comments during a press conference at the BNP Chairperson's office in Gulshan on Tuesday morning.

The press conference was organised to discuss the topics raised during the BNP's Standing Committee meeting held on Monday night.

Fakhrul emphasised that the BNP believes there is no need to hold local elections before the national elections, as doing so would further delay the national elections.

Criticising the VAT, taxes on essential goods, and the rise in gas prices, the BNP Secretary General said these measures would lead to increased public suffering.
