BNP infighting over council session leaves unit president dead

Abul Hasan Ratan, the newly elected president of the Rauti Union BNP, was killed, and three others were injured during a violent clash between two factions of the party over the union’s council session at Banail Bazar in Tarail, Kishoreganj, on Sunday morning.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Sohel Mia of Tarail Police Station confirmed the incident, saying that the violence ensued around 11:00am when Ratan and his supporters came under attack of rivals following his election. Police reported that the former union BNP president, refusing to accept the new leadership, triggered a confrontation between the factions.

The altercation escalated into a violent clash, during which Ratan and three others sustained critical injuries in a knife attack.

The injured were taken to the Tarail Upazila Health Complex, where doctors declared Ratan dead upon arrival.
