JCD secretary finds Shibir's council ‘contrived, dramatic'
BNP’s student wing Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal General Secretary Nasir Uddin Nasir has labelled the recent council session of Islami Chhatra Shibir, the student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami, as "contrived and full of drama," alleging the outcome was predetermined.
Speaking to journalists after paying homage at the grave of Ziaur Rahman on the occasion of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal’s 46th founding anniversary, Nasir said, "They cannot do political activities openly. It’s always shrouded in secrecy, as you have seen."
The council session, held publicly for the first time in almost 14 years on Tuesday, elected Zahidul Islam as president of Chhatra Shibir and Nurul Islam Saddam was chosen as secretary general.
Nasir’s comments come against the backdrop of rising tensions between Chhatra Dal and Chhatra Shibir. After the fall of the Sheikh Hasina government, the two groups have reportedly clashed over influence in educational institutions, with several incidents of confrontations between their activists.
