Be pioneer in building humane Bangladesh, Jamaat chief tells doctors

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Amir, Dr Shafiqur Rahman, has called on doctors to take the lead in creating a humane and compassionate Bangladesh. 

He made the appeal during a gathering organised by the National Doctors’ Forum (NDF) at the Bangabandhu International Conference Center in Dhaka on Wednesday.

Dr Shafiqur Rahman acknowledged progress in the country’s health sector but pointed out that Bangladesh still relies on importing raw materials for drug manufacturing. 

He expressed hope that the NDF would spearhead transformative changes in the healthcare system.

"Some of you must dedicate yourselves to research, as there is no alternative to innovation and discovery," he urged, lamenting the lack of prioritization of research in the country.

The Jamaat chief emphasised the critical role of physicians in shaping the desired Bangladesh. "Doctors bear a greater responsibility than others in building a humane society, and this must be achieved through dedicated service," he said.

He also encouraged physicians to provide respectful and efficient care to all, especially the underprivileged. "You must remember that your journey to this position was supported not only by your families but also by the hard-earned money of ordinary citizens. Doctors must lead by example in creating a humane Bangladesh," he said.
