Nat’l Revolutionary Council announces central committee

The National Revolutionary Council, a Muslim nationalist political party formed by students involved in the July-August Uprising, has unveiled a 77-member partial central convening committee.

Dhaka University alumnus Anisur Rahman has been appointed as the political head of the party and Mohammad Shafiur Rahman as the organisational head, Khomeni Ehsan as the convener, and Chittagong University alumnus Hasan Mohammad Arif as the member secretary.

The committee includes representatives from various sectors, such as women, researchers, teachers, doctors, engineers, journalists, artists, entrepreneurs, and businesspeople, all graduates of different universities.

The organisation announced the committee via a press release on Wednesday.

The convening committee is formed for a six-month term and it will work for mobilising public and build a political movement to eliminate fascism, draft a new constitution before the national elections, and establish political and social consensus through engagement with influential citizens.

The party will also set up committees across all administrative divisions, metropolitan areas, districts, and police stations, including Dhaka.

The party will hold its first central council session in May. By then, the party intends to, finalise its constitution, form a party fund and establish a central office.

The council session will mark the launch of a final movement to eradicate fascism and propose a new constitution.

Following the mass uprising on August 5, a student faction first formed the Revolutionary Students' Council, which later evolved into the National Revolutionary Council.

This announcement follows the council’s public debut on December 16 at Dhaka University's central mosque, where a procession was held to the Central Shaheed Minar.
