Fakhrul hopes for swift arrangement of elections
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Saturday expressed hope that a free and fair election will be arranged soon, in accordance with the will of the people. He emphasised that through a fair, impartial, and transparent election, the people will have the opportunity to elect their representatives.
He made these comments after paying tribute to the martyrs at the Martyred Intellectuals Memorial in Mirpur on Saturday morning (December 14).
Fakhrul added, "The fascist forces were defeated on July 36 or August 5, creating a new opportunity. We must make the best use of this opportunity to establish Bangladesh as a truly democratic, modern, and egalitarian state."
At this time, BNP Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, members of the party’s Standing Committee Nazrul Islam Khan and Dr Moyeen Khan, along with conveners from Dhaka North and South, and other leaders and activists of the party were present.
Rizvi also responded to remarks made by an adviser regarding reforms, stating that it was an attempt to depoliticize the issue. "All reforms in the world have been brought about by politicians," he remarked.
Earlier, at 9:30 am, BNP leaders and activists, led by Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, paid their respects at the Martyred Intellectuals Memorial in Mirpur.
