Conspiracies brewing somewhere, warns Tarique, calls for vigilance
BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has urged party leaders and activists to remain vigilant against potential conspiracies.
Speaking at a workshop titled "31 Points for Repairing the State Structure and Public Engagement" on Tuesday, he cautioned, “We often say that conspiracies have not ceased. The news in recent days should make this clear... Some conspiracy is brewing somewhere. Therefore, the people must be made aware and kept on our side.”
The workshop, organised by the BNP at the Institution of Diploma Engineers Bangladesh auditorium in Kakrail, Dhaka, featured Tarique Rahman joining virtually from London.
Tarique emphasised the importance of restoring accountability through voting in a democratic society. He stated, “In a democratic and civilized country, accountability is ensured through voting. Numerous leaders and activists have been disappeared or murdered while fighting for this fundamental right. At any cost, the people must be empowered with the right to vote.”
He linked political dysfunction to broader issues, saying, “If a country's politics is sick, its economy will be sick. When both politics and the economy are compromised, other sectors—education, health, justice, administration—also fail, leaving people without benefits.” He highlighted that the BNP's primary mission is to restore political rights and establish accountability in governance.
Comparing the country to a family, Tarique said, “In a family, children are accountable to their parents for coming home late. Without accountability, imagine the chaos in a household. Similarly, in the last 15 years, due to the lack of accountability, we’ve seen enforced disappearances, murders, rigged elections held at night, and mass money laundering.”
He stressed that restoring accountability is key to resolving these issues, which, he said, is only possible by safeguarding the people's right to vote.
Looking ahead, Tarique expressed confidence in the BNP’s prospects, saying, “If neutral elections are held in Bangladesh and we can keep the party united, acting according to the people’s wishes, then, God willing, BNP will form the government.”
He urged leaders and activists to deliver the party’s 31-point proposal for state structure reform to every household, ensuring widespread public engagement.
