Tarique declines titles of ‘Desh Nayak’, ‘Rashtranayak’
BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has called for an end to the use of titles such as Desh Nayak (hero of the country) and Rashtranayak (statesman) in reference to him, saying, "Please don’t use these words for me from today onwards."
Tarique made these remarks at the '31-point workshop on repairing the state structure and public relations' in Dhaka on November 19. He focused on key issues like national reforms, tackling unemployment, and creating new job-oriented sectors beyond the garment and remittance industries.
He urged BNP leaders and activists to take the 31-point reform agenda to the grassroots level, emphasising that economic and political liberation is essential for meaningful change.
Tarique also highlighted the country’s pressing unemployment issue, with over 10 million jobless, and pledged to explore new avenues for job creation, though acknowledging progress would take time.
In his address, Tarique reaffirmed the importance of political accountability through voting, stressing that all leaders, whether from the government or opposition, must answer to the people.
The workshop is being conducted by BNP's Training Sub-Committee Member Secretary ABM Mosharraf Hossain under the chairmanship of BNP Organising Secretary Kazi Sayyedul Alam Babul.
