BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has expressed mild disappointment over Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus's speech marking the 100th day of the interim government.

While acknowledging that many found hope in the address, Fakhrul remarked, "I am a little disappointed."

Speaking at an event commemorating the 48th death anniversary of Maulana Abdul Hamid Khan Bhashani at the National Press Club on Monday, Fakhrul said, "We expected the Chief Adviser to use his wisdom to clearly identify the problems and present a roadmap for elections. The solution to our issues lies in holding elections. Whether the BNP comes to power or not is secondary, but those creating obstacles will have to back down if elections are held."

Fakhrul criticised the interim government for what he described as flawed reform efforts, stating, "Reforms cannot be achieved by placing fascist accomplices in the secretariat. Delays in holding elections will only breed suspicion among the people."

He emphasised that BNP is not opposed to reforms but argued they must be meaningful and acceptable to all. "We have not created obstacles for you; rather, we have extended support. Please proceed in a manner that ensures fairness and acceptability," he added.

Addressing governance issues, Fakhrul urged the government to take measures that bring relief to the people. "Run the country in such a way that people feel at peace. The rising cost of goods has already burdened the populace, yet they still hope for better outcomes from you."

He stressed the importance of breaking syndicates and tackling corruption in public services, saying, "Make it visible that you are addressing these issues. What if people still have to pay bribes to get work done?"

Other BNP leaders and associated figures also spoke at the event, including Vice Chairman Shamsuzzaman Dudu, Chairperson’s Advisor Habibur Rahman Habib, and Joint Secretary General Abdus Salam Azad. Leaders from affiliated organizations, such as the Desh Bachao Manush Bachao Andolan, also voiced concerns over the current state of governance and reforms.

The event underscored BNP's continued emphasis on elections as a solution to the country's political and economic challenges, with calls for transparent reforms and immediate steps to restore public trust.
