Former Member of Parliament for the Sylhet-2 constituency and central leader of the Jatiya Party (JaPa), Yahya Chowdhury, has been arrested in the capital.

Lt. Col. Muneem Ferdous, Director of the Legal and Media Wing of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), confirmed the arrest on Monday night. He said that RAB-1 and RAB-9 conducted a joint drive to arrest Yahya in Uttara.

Earlier, a case was filed against him in connection with the attack on students and civilians during the anti-discrimination movement that led to the ousting of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Yahya was elected as a Member of Parliament from the Jatiya Party in the 10th national parliamentary election in 2014. In that parliament, he served as a member of the parliamentary standing committee for the Ministry of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change.
