Nur announces to contest JS polls from Patuakhali-3
Gono Odhikar Parishad President Nurul Haque Nur has announced to contest the next Jatiya Sangsad election from Patuakhali-3 constituency (Galachipa-Dashmina).
He, also former vice-president (VP) of the Dhaka University Central Students' Union, DUCSU, made the announcement in a reception given to him in Patuakhali’s Galachipa on Tuesday afternoon (October 29).
Mentioning many spread a confusion that he will compete in the next general election from Dhaka, Nur said he would rather take part in the polls from his birthplace (Patuakhali).
“One cannot forget his mother and soil. I grew up with the mud and water of the river. If you support me, I will contest from Patuakhali-3,” he said.
Gono Odhikar Parishad, led by Nurul Haque Nur, was registered as a political party with the Election Commission on September 2. Its electoral symbol is Truck.
Earlier on August 28, Nur gave the Election Commission a seven-day ultimatum to register his party.
In 2018, Nur led the anti-quota system in government services under the banner of Chhatra Odhika Parishad.
Later, he was elected DUCSU vice-president.
In 2021, Gono Odhikar Parishad was launched as a new political party with economist Reza Kibria as its convenor and Nur as member secretary.
