Barrister Suman sent to jail after 5-day remand
A Dhaka court has sent former Member of Parliament for the Habiganj-4 constituency, Barrister Syed Sayedul Haque Suman, to jail after the police produced him before the court following a five-day remand in a murder attempt case.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Sefatullah passed the order on Sunday.
The investigation officer (IO) and Sub Inspector of Mirpur Model Police Station, Abdul Halim, produced Barrister Suman before the court and appealed for him to be kept in jail.
Earlier on Monday night, police arrested Barrister Suman in the Mirpur-6 area of the capital. Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Jakir Hossain had granted a five-day remand for him in a case filed over an alleged attempt to kill Hridoy Miah, a Juba Dal leader and assistant chef at Bangaliana Bhoj restaurant in Mirpur.
According to the case statement, during the anti-discrimination student movement, Hridoy attended a rally at Mirpur-10 after performing Jummah prayers on July 19. Leaders and activists of the Awami League and its affiliated organizations attacked the rally, throwing crude bombs and opening fire, during which Hridoy was shot.
Hridoy is the Senior Vice President of the Madhabpur 10 No Hatiain Union unit of Jubo Dal in Habiganj. He filed the case at Mirpur Model Police Station on September 23.
