Jamaat files review petition to reinstate caretaker govt
Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has submitted a review petition to the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court, challenging the decision to abolish the caretaker government system.
Jamaat's Secretary General, Mia Ghulam Parwar, filed the petition on Wednesday, confirmed by their lawyer, Mohammad Shishir Monir.
The review petition follows a scheduled hearing for October 24 on two other petitions related to the same issue. Earlier, BNP's Secretary General, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, filed a review on October 16. SHUJAN Secretary Dr. Badiul Alam Majumdar also submitted a petition in August.
The caretaker system, introduced in 1996, was declared unconstitutional in 2011.
However, the court allowed the 10th and 11th elections to be held under a caretaker government.
