BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said that the new government is only 20-22 days old and should be given time to create a fair election environment.

He, however, emphasised that power should be transferred to the people's representatives as quickly as possible.

Speaking during a relief distribution event for flood victims in the Chhota Sharifpur area of Lalmai in Cumilla, on Saturday (August 31), Fakhrul stated that it is premature to criticise the government and that all political parties participated in discussions to ensure a fair election that meets public demands.

Claiming said that he did not come to give a speech but to support flood victims, Fakhrul reminded the audience of his long-standing struggle against Sheikh Hasina’s government, spanning 15-16 years.

He acknowledged that many attendees have faced legal challenges but stressed the importance of holding onto the current sense of relief and working towards a fair election that brings genuine representatives of the people to power.

Fakhrul also addressed recent activities aimed at tarnishing the image of the BNP, warning that the party has no connection with extortionists. He urged everyone to refrain from such activities and to report any cases of extortion or encroachment to the police without expecting any leniency from the party.

The event was chaired by BNP Chairperson’s Adviser Monirul Haque Chowdhury, and attended by BNP Organising Secretary Professor Salim Bhuiyan, BNP Relief and Rehabilitation Affairs Secretary, Cumilla South District BNP Convener Amin Ur Rashid Yasin, along with other district and upazila leaders and activists.
