Yunus exchanging views with 7 Islamic parties
Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus has initiated discussions with seven Islamic parties at the state guest house, Jamuna.
The leaders from Khelafat Majlish, Nizam-e-Islam, Hefazat-e-Islam, Bangladesh Khelafat Majlish, Islami Andolan, Khelafat Andolan, and Jamiat Ulama-e-Islam arrived at Jamuna at 3:00pm on Saturday.
The talks are scheduled to continue until 8:00pm, according to an official from the Press Wing of the Office of the Chief Adviser.
During these discussions, the political parties are expected to present their proposals and perspectives on the current situation in the country, including reforms to the administration and the election commission, and the next general election.
Environment and Forest Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan noted that the dialogue process with political parties will continue, and the interim government will consider the reform proposals that emerge from these talks.
Following the fall of the Awami League government on August 5, triggered by a student-led mass uprising, the advisory council led by Dr Muhammad Yunus assumed the responsibility of the interim government on August 8.
While the major political party BNP welcomed the interim government, its Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has been urging the government since August 24 to engage in talks with political parties on the election issue. A delegation led by Mirza Fakhrul met with the Chief Adviser on Thursday.
After the meeting, Mirza Fakhrul told reporters that the Chief Adviser would exchange views with political parties in phases.
Earlier on August 12, senior leaders from BNP, Jamaat-e-Islami, CPB led by Shah Alam, Ganatantra Mancha, BJP, Islami Andolon Bangladesh, AB Party, Gana Odhikar Parishad, Democratic Left Alliance, and NDM held separate meetings with the Chief Adviser, expressing full support for the interim government.
As of Saturday afternoon, the Chief Adviser's office had not disclosed the total number of political parties invited to the discussions. However, some parties have confirmed their invitations. Following this, the Chief Adviser is expected to hold discussions with delegations from Gonoforum, LDP, Jatiya Party, Jatiyatabadi Samomana Dal, the 12-party alliance, and Bangladesh JSD.
