Grocer murder: Dipu Moni, Joy put on remand

A Dhaka court on Tuesday placed former Social Welfare Minister Dr Dipu Moni on four days’ and former Deputy Minister for Youth and Sports Arif Khan Joy on five days’ remand in a grocer murder case.

Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Sultan Shohag Uddin passed the order after police produced them before the court, seeking a 10-day against them for fair investigation.

The law enforcers detained Dipu Moni from Baridhara and Joy from Dhanmondi in the capital on Monday night.

Earlier n August 13, one SM Amir Hamja filed the case with the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Rajesh Chowdhury.

The court accepted the statement of the plaintiff and asked the Mohammadpur police station to take it as statement. 

Abu Sayed, a grocer, was killed in Basila area under Mohammadpur police station on July 19 when the police opened fire on the students and public during the quota reform protests.
