All bank accounts of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Chairperson Khaleda Zia have been unfrozen after 17 years.

The Central Intelligence Branch of the National Board of Revenue (NBR) on Monday sent a letter to Bangladesh Bank regarding the activation of all bank accounts of the BNP chief.

Source said, the newly appointed NBR Chairman Abdur Rahman Khan made this decision after consulting with the Chief Advisor of the interim government, Dr Muhammad Yunus.

In 2007, the bank accounts of both Khaleda Zia and Sheikh Hasina were frozen during the tenure of the caretaker government. After Sheikh Hasina won the election and became the prime minister, her account was opened.
