A writ petition has been filed with the High Court seeking its directions to ban Awami League and cancel its registration as a political party for killing students and general people during the quota reform movement.

Arifur Rahman Murad Bhuiyan, Executive Director of rights group Sarda Society, on Monday filed the writ, pleading to rename all the institutions across the country named after ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina.

The Cabinet Secretary, Secretary of the Public Division of the President’s Office, Anti-Corruption Commission Chairman, Law Secretary, Election Commission Secretary, Bank and Financial Institutions Secretary, National Board of Revenue Chairman, Bangladesh Bank Governor, BFIU chief and the coordinators and the assistant coordinators of the Anti-Discriminations Student Movement were made respondents to the writ petition.

The petition is likely to be heard at the High bench of Justice A K M Asaduzzaman and Justice Muhammad Mahbub Ul Islam.
