Former AL MP Latif placed on 3-day remand

A Chattogram court has placed former Awami League lawmaker for Chattogram-11 on a three-day remand in a case filed under the Explosives Act.

Chattogram Metropolitan Magistrate Jewel Deb passed the order on Saturday.

AAM Humayun Kabir, Deputy Commissioner (prosecution) of the Chattogram Metropolitan Police, confirmed the matter. 

According to court sources, students and general people were attacked at Dewanhat area in Double Mooring thana while returning from a programme organized by Anti-Discrimination Student Movement. During the incident, a man named Ershad was shot dead. Later, a case was filed against 16 people including MA Latif and 100-150 unnamed others.

Earlier in the day, police claimed they had arrested Latif from the Mazargate area at Bayezid Bostami thana area in the city.
