Another murder case filed against Hasina, 22 others

Another murder case has been filed against former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and 22 others over the murder of a youth named Md Sifat Hossain in the capital’s Mirpur during the recent student movement. 

Sifat’s father Kamal Hawladar filed the case with the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mehedee Hasan on Thursday. 

The court recorded the plaintiff’s statement and instructed Mirpur Model police station to register the complaint as a First Information Report (FIR). 

The police station later sent the document after receiving the FIR.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Zakee-Al Farabee on Friday accepted the case statement and set September 22 to submit an investigation report. 

The other accused are former Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader, former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, former Inspector General of Police Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun, former DB chief Harun-or-Rashid, Joint Commissioner Biplob Kumar Sarkar, former DMP Commissioner Habibur Rahman, former Manikganj-2 lawmaker SM Zahid, Swapan Bepari, Alamgir, Juba League leader Mahbub, Saroar Hossain, Rezaul Haque Bhuiyan Bahar, Ruhul Amin, Humayun Rashid Jahir, Swechchasebak League leader Monowar Hossain Bipul, Jahangir Hossain, former Dhaka-14 lawmaker Mainul Hossain Khan Nikhil, former Dhaka-15 lawmaker Kamal Ahmed Mojumder, Md Zia, Md Zaman Miah and Md Mehedee.

According to the case statement, police opened fire when several thousand students and general people were staging demonstration at Mirpur 10 on July 20. Sifat suffered bullet injuries while crossing the road to go to a safer place. Later, local people rushed him to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital where doctors on duty declared him dead. Police did not take the case.

This is the fifth murder case filed against Sheikh Hasina following her resignation and departure from the country in the wake of student protests.
