Hasina faces auto-rickshaw driver murder charge

A case has been filed against 11 individuals, including former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader, in connection with the shooting death of autorickshaw driver Sahabuddin during the student movement in Dhaka's Sher-e-Bangla Nagar.

On Thursday, August 15, Sahabuddin's father, Abul Kalam, filed the case in the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Farah Diba Chhanda. The court directed Sher-e-Bangla Nagar police station to accept the FIR.

This marks the fifth case filed against Sheikh Hasina since she resigned as prime minister and fled to India following the student uprising on August 5. Of these cases, four involve murder charges, while one pertains to kidnapping.

The other nine accused include former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan, former Law Minister Anisul Huq, Sheikh Hasina's private industry and investment adviser Salman F Rahman, former Foreign Minister Hasan Mahmud, former Information and Broadcasting Minister Mohammad Ali Arafat, former IGP Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun, former DB Chief of DMP Harun-Or Rashid, Additional Joint Commissioner Biplab Kumar, and former DMP Commissioner Habibur Rahman.

According to the complaint, Sahabuddin was killed by the police at 7:15 pm on August 5 during a phase of the anti-discrimination student movement. 

The case affidavit mentions that he had left home to buy food that day.
