Tuku, Palak, Saikat on 10-day remand
A Dhaka court has granted police 10 days to interrogate former Deputy Speaker Shamsul Haque Tuku, former State Minister for Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Zunaid Ahmed Palak, and Chhatra League’s Dhaka University unit general secretary Tanvir Hasan Saikat in custody.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Rashidul Alam issued the order on Thursday after the police produced the three before the court, requesting a 10-day remand for a fair investigation.
The trio was arrested from the Nikunja residential area under Khilkhet police station in the capital on Wednesday night. They were detained in connection with a case filed at Paltan police station over the death of rickshaw puller Kamal Mia, 39, who was shot on July 19 during the quota reform movement.
According to the FIR filed by Fatema Khatun, 36, Kamal was struck by bullets in front of Paltan police station when police and unidentified 'miscreants' were exchanging gunfire. He later died at the hospital.
