Top political prisoners get bail

A Dhaka court has granted bail to more than one thousand leaders and activists of BNP-Jamaat, including top leaders, in cases filed on sabotage charges during the anti-quota student movement. 

The Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate passed the order on Tuesday after hearing the bail petitions.

Among the accused who were granted bail are BNP’s standing committee member Amir Khasru Mahbud Chowdhury, Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, Joint Secretary General Shaheed Uddin Chowdhury Annie, Jamaat’s Secretary General Miah Golam Parwar, Khaleda Zia’s special assistant Shamsur Rahman alias Shimul Biswas, Dhaka city south unit BNP convener Saiful Alam Nirab, Dhaka north unit BNP Member Secretary Aminul Haque and Publicity Secretary Sultan Salahuddin Tuku.
