The Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and its student organisation Islami Chhatra Shibir will be banned by an executive order from the government by Wednesday.

Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Anisul Huq said this while talking to the reporters at Secretariat on Tuesday.

Replying to a question, the minister said, Prime Minister asked me to take an initiative in this regard by tomorrow (Wednesday). I will sit with Home Minister after a while. We will make a decision on which legal process will be followed for its execution.

The minister said the country’s law and order situation will improve if the party is banned.

Earlier on Monday night, the Awami League-led 14-party alliance decided to ban Jamaat, which lost its registration as a political party before the 11th general election, for their alleged involvement in anti-state activities.

This decision was made at a meeting at Ganabhaban, chaired by AL President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

After the meeting, the AL General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader, said the BNP and Jamaat are conspiring to create chaos in the country. The 14-party alliance has unanimously decided to ban Jamaat and Shibir to eliminate anti-national evil forces for the sake of national interest.
