BNP leader Annie on 7-day remand

A Dhaka court on Saturday placed BNP’s joint secretary general, Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Annie, on a seven-day remand in a case filed over the attack on Bangladesh Television Bhaban.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Shanta Akter passed the order after the police had produced him before the court, seeking a 10-day remand for fair investigation.

BTV’s Dhaka station general manager, Mahfuza Akter, lodged the case with Rampura Police Station on July 19.

Following filing of the case, the law enforcers arrested Annie from Elephant Road area on July 25.

The case statement said unknown 3,000/4,000 activists of BNP, and Jamaat-e-Islami in the direction of the parties’ top leaders stormed into BTV Bhaban at Rampura in the capital on July 18 during the quota reform movement and carried out vandalism, arson attack, and looting there.
