Court sends Nur to jail over attack on Setu Bhaban

A Dhaka court on Friday sent Gono Odhikar Parishad president Nurul Haque Nur to jail in a case filed over the attack on Setu Bhaban.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Shakil Ahmed passed the order after the police produced him before the court, seeking his confinement in prison until the investigation ends.

Earlier on July 21, a court in the capital placed Nur, a former vice-president of Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU), on a five-day remand that ended today.

The case statement said during the recent quota reform protests, 250/300 unidentified people equipped with locally made weapons, sticks and brickbats stormed into Setu Bhaban at Banani and carried out vandalism there.

They also beat up office staff and security guards there, according to the case documents.

Later, Rabiul Islam, caretaker of the building, lodged a case with Banani Police Station in this connection.
