The health condition of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, who is receiving treatment at Evercare Hospital in Dhaka, has deteriorated further, according to the doctors.

The party health affairs secretary Dr Rafiqul Islam on Sunday said doctors at the hospital informed him that the health condition of the BNP chief worsened.

From Friday night (July 12), her liver problem worsened which doctors say is alarming, and her physical condition is deteriorating day by day.

Earlier, Khaleda Zia was admitted to the hospital on July 8, six days after she returned home following 12 days of treatment.

On June 21, she was admitted to the same hospital's Critical Care Unit (CCU), and on June 23, a 'pacemaker' was placed in her heart.

A pacemaker is an electrical device for stimulating or steadying the heartbeat or reestablishing the rhythm of an arrested heart.

On May 1, she was admitted to the hospital's Coronary Care Unit (CCU) to remove water from her lungs and discharged after two weeks.

Khaleda Zia has been suffering from arthritis, diabetes, kidney, lung, and eye issues for a long time.

She also experienced bleeding in the digestive tract and liver cirrhosis later in November.
