Veteran politician and Adviser to the Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB) Haidar Akbar Khan Rono has passed away.

He breathed his last after 2am on Saturday while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Dhaka.

CPB’s central committee member Joly Talukder confirmed the death to the media.

The namaz-e-janaza and the burial of the renowned leftist leader will be informed later, she said.

He felt sick at his home on Friday evening and was admitted to Health and Hope Hospital in Dhaka where he died early today.

Rono was born on August 31, 1942, in Calcutta, Bengal Presidency, British India (now Kolkata).

He was the general secretary of the then East Pakistan Chhatra Union.

Rono left the Workers Party of Bangladesh in 2010 and joined the CPB due to differences of opinion.

He was made a presidium member of the party in 2012 and then became an adviser to the CPB.
