SC grants bail to BNP leader Amanullah Aman
The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court (SC) has granted anticipatory bail to BNP’s Dhaka city north unit convener Amanullah Aman, who was sentenced to 13 years in jail, in a case filed over amassing wealth beyond known income source.
A five-member of the Appellate Division bench of the SC led by Chief Justice Obaidul Hasan passed the order on Wednesday.
Advocate Nazmul Huda confirmed the matter to Jago News.
Barrister AM Mahbub Uddin Khokon appeared before the court on behalf of Aman while advocate Md Khurshid Alam Khan represented the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
On March 6 in 2007, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed the graft case with Kafrul Thana in the capital.
On June 21, 2007, the Special Judge’s Court sentenced Aman to 13 years imprisonment for amassing illegal wealth beyond his known income source.
His wife, being an accomplice in the case, was awarded with three years of imprisonment.
ACC filed an appeal as a High Court bench acquitted them from the corruption charges on August 16, 2010.
Later on May 26, 2014, the High Court abolished the verdict and ordered to rehear the case.
