Six chairmen, secretary generals of 5 parties lose security money in Chattogram
Six chairmen and secretary generals of five parties in Chattogram's six seats have lost their security money as they could not secure the required votes cast in the 12th national elections held on Sunday.
They are Dr Syed Saifuddin Ahmed Maizbhandari, chairman of Bangladesh Supreme Party (BSP), Syed Najibul Bashar Maizbhandari, chairman of Tarikat Federation Bangladesh, from Chattogram-2 seat, Maolana MA Matin, chairman of Bangladesh Islami Front, from Chattogram-12, its secretary general Prof SUM Abdus Samad from Chattogram-14, SM Abul Kalam Azad, chairman of Bangladesh Nationalist Front (BNF) from Chattogram-8, and Abul Bashar Muhammad Joynul Abedin Zubair, secretary general of Islamic Front Bangladesh, from Chattogram-10 and Chattogram-11.
Of them, the Tarikat Federation chairman withdrew from the election race two days before the voting in the national election.
Despite this, he was supposed to get some votes as his electoral symbol was on the ballot paper due to not withdrawing his candidacy in the stipulated time as per schedule.
According to the election rules, a candidate will not get back security money if he fails to bag minimum 12.5 percent of the total votes cast in the election, said Md Yunus Ali, regional election officer in the district.
