AL candidate’s supporter hacked to death in Munshiganj

A supporter of the ruling Awami League candidate Mrinal Kanti Das of Munshiganj-3 constituency was hacked to death allegedly by the followers of independent candidate Md Faisal Biplob in front of a polling centre at Tangore area of Mirkadim municipality under Sadar upazila in Munshiganj on Sunday morning.

The incident occurred around 9:30am.

The deceased was identified as Zillur Rahman, 40, of Noighigirpathar area in the district.  

The tense situation was prevailing in the area centering the incident. 

Additional members of BGB and police have been deployed in the area to avert further untoward situation.

Returning Officer Md Abu Jafar Ripon and Police Superintendent Mohammad Aslam Khan visited the spot. 

The family of the deceased alleged that the supporters of independent candidate of scissor symbol Faisal Biplab hacked and beat him to death.

Zillur’s wife Rehana Begum said some people led by former mayor of Mirkadim municipality Md Shahidul Islam Shahin and councilor Md Liton surrounded him and hacked and beat him to death. 

In this connection, Returning Officer Md Abu Jafar Ripon said those who are responsible for the murder will be brought under law after investigation.
