AL didn’t get permission to hold rally on Dec 10: Quader
Awami League (AL) General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader on Tuesday morning said his party did not get permission from the Election Commission to hold the rally at the south gate of Baitul Mukarram on December 10 on the occasion of Human Rights Day.
He said they will now hold a discussion meeting at the office of Dhaka district Awami League in the capital’s Tejgaon on the day.
Quader said this after placing a wreath on the grave of Hussain Shaheed Suhrawardy on the occasion of his 60th death anniversary.
Suhrawardy, who had dedicated his entire life to ensure the welfare of the people by upholding democracy, died at a Beirut hotel in Lebanon on December 5 in 1963. He was alone in the hotel suite at the time of his death.
Awami League paid tributes to the late leader by placing wreaths on his grave adjacent to the High Court at 9am. Fateha and doa were also offered there.
