Obstruction of duty: 72 including Jamaat ameer indicted

A court in Dhaka has indicted 72 leaders and activists of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, including its Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman, in a case filed for allegedly obstructing police from performing duty.

Other accused who were indicted are Jamaat Secretary Mia Goalm Parwar, Assistant Secretary Rafiqul Islam Khan, executive member Md Izzat Ullah and Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir president Delwar Hossain Saydee.

The court of Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Md Hasibul Haque framed charges against them on Sunday and set December 27 to take testimony.

The case statement said vehicles were vandalized, brickbats thrown and police obstructed from performing their duty in front of Abul Hotel in Rampura in the capital Dhaka Jamaat's hartal on November 6. 2012.

Later, sub-inspector lodged a case with Rampura Police Station in this connection.
