Jatiya Party names candidates for 289 seats in nat’l polls

Jatiya Party has announced the names of its candidates for 289 constituencies out of 300 for the 12th Jatiya Sangsad (JS) election slated for January 7.

Jatiya Party secretary general Md Mujibul Haque Chunnu announced the names at a press conference at the party chairman’s Banani office on Monday evening.

The party’s Senior Co-Chairman Anisul Islam Mahmud, Co-Chairmen Kazi Feroz Rashid, Syed Abu Hossain Babla and Mostafizar Rahman Mostofa were, among others, present during this time. 

Announcing the names of the candidates, Chunnu also sought votes for the party nominated candidates who will vie for the election with party’s election symbol “plough”

He said the party will later announce names of candidates for rest of 11 seats.

The party has kept the Mymensingh-4 seat for chief patron Raushan Ershad, wife of party founder Hussain Muhammad Ershad, who did not collect any nomination papers amid a dispute with Chairman GM Quader, brother of Ershad.

The party chairman GM Quader has been nominated from Dhaka-17 and his wife Sharifa Quader has been nominated for Dhaka-18 constituency. Meanwhile, Mujibul Haque Chunnu has been nominated for Kishoreganj-3 constituency.
