Fakhrul denied bail over attack on CJ's residence
A court in Dhaka has rejected the bail petition of BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir in a case over the attack on the residence of the chief justice.
Acting Judge Faisal Atiq Bin Quader of Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Court passed the order on Wednesday after a hearing.
Earlier on October 29, the Detective Branch (DB) of Police arrested Mirza Fakhrul from House No. 18 on Road No. 71 at Gulshan-2 and on that night, they produced him before Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court.
On that night, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Shafi Uddin ordered to send him to jail after rejecting his bail plea.
On November 2, a petition for his bail was filed with the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Asaduzzaman and the court set November 20 to hear the plea.
The prosecution had prayed to defer the hearing as Metropolitan Public Prosecutor Abdullah Abu was sick and the court, later, fixed today (November 22) for the hearing.
An attack was carried out on the residence of the chief justice at Kakrail in the capital before the start of BNP's October 28 grand rally at Nayapaltan.
Later, a case was filed against 59 BNP leaders and activists, including Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Standing Committee Members Mirza Abbas and Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, with Ramna Police Station over the attack.
