Dudu, Swapan shown arrested in police weapon snatching case
A court in Dhaka on Sunday showed BNP vice-chairman Shamsuzzaman Dudu and media cell convener Jahir Uddin Swapan arrested in a case lodged over allegedly snatching of police weapon and vandalizing the Liberation War Museum of Bangladesh Police.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Rajesh Chowdhury passed the order as police produced Dudu before the court and Swapan's appearance was ensured from jail virtually.
Allowing a police plea to show the two BNP leaders arrested in the case, the court passed its order and set November 27 for holding a hearing on a petition to place them on remand.
According to the case documents, BNP men following direct order and instigation of BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Standing Committee Member Mirza Abbas, Dhaka City unit convener Abdus Salam, vandalized police canteen and Liberation War Museum of Bangladesh Police.
They torched a duty post of police and snatched a pistol and magazine loaded with eight bullets of ASI Ershadul Haque, beating him indiscriminately.
The other accused in the case include Moazzem Hossain Alal, Mujibur Rahman Sarwar, Habibun Nabi Khan Sohel and Rafikul Islam Bakul.
