BNP rejects schedule of national election

BNP has turned down the schedule of the next general elections announced on Wednesday and demanded the polls under a caretaker government.

The party's Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said this in a virtual press conference tonight.

He said the Election Commission announced the schedule of a one-sided election defying the entire Bangladesh's expectations, public onion, and international communities' repeated calls for fair polls.

"We reject with intense hatred the schedule the backbone-less and biased Election Commission announced for taking away democracy and people's voting right through another farce election like previous times in the direction of Sheikh Hasina," he said.

Earlier this evening, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal announced that the 12th parliamentary elections will be held on January 7, 2024.
