BNP leader Prince put on 3-day remand

BNP Organizing Secretary Syed Emran Saleh Prince has been remanded for three days in a case filed for allegedly snatching a pistol from police and attacking the Police Liberation War Museum.

The court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Saiful Islam granted the three-day remand against him on Sunday after police had produced him before the court and sought a seven-day remand while his lawyer prayed for bail.

Earlier on Saturday night, the detectives arrested Syed Emran Saleh Prince from the house of a relative in Badda area of the capital.

According to the case statement, the accused named in the statement and unknown ones in the instigation and direction of BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Standing Committee Member Mirza Abbas, and Dhaka City BNP convener Abdus Salam vandalized canteen of Paltan Police Station, hurled brickbats toward Bangladesh Police Liberation War Museum, vandalized and torched different vehicles, including motorcycles, and torched duty post of Chanmari Police Lines on October 28.

They attacked police when the law enforcers tried to restrain them to save lives and public property, leaving several policemen injured, said the statement.

The accused also beat up assistant sub-inspector Ershadul Haque to kill him and snatched away his pistol and eight rounds of bullet-filled magazine, as per the statement.

On November 1, sub-inspector Shafiqul Islam of Khilkhet Police Station filed a case with Paltan Police Station against 415 BNP leaders and activists, including Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, in this connection.
