Mirza Abbas placed on 5-day remand
A court in Dhaka has placed BNP Standing Committee Member Mirza Abbas on a five-day remand in a case filed under Explosive Substances Act.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Shafi Uddin passed the order on Wednesday after police had produced him before the court, seeking a five-day remand.
Sub-inspector Mostafizur Rahman of Shahjahanpur Police Station, Dhaka on Sunday (October 29) filed the case against 49 named people, including Mirza Abbas, and around 700-800 unknown ones.
The case statement said the accused in the leadership and direction of Mirza Abbas threw brickbats and coctails, obstructed police from doing performing duties and snatched arms from them in Shahjahanpur area on October 28 aiming to commit subversive and destructive acts and murder.
However, Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police arrested Mirza Abbas in a drive at Shahidbag in the capital on Tuesday night.
DB said he is accused in several cases filed over the violence and subversive acts during BNP's October 28 grand rally.
