BNP, Jamaat’s blockade underway for 2nd day
The second day of the three-day countrywide blockade, called by Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, is underway on Wednesday.
Buses, CNG-run three wheelers and private vehicles were seen on Dhaka streets in the morning.
Law enforcers were seen vigilant in different parts of the capital to avert untoward incidents.
In Savar, miscreants set a parked bus on fire at Baliarpur area around 6am.
Savar Fire Service's Senior Station Officer Nurul Islam said being informed two firefighting units rushed to the spot and doused the fire.
The blockade that started early Tuesday will end on Thursday evening.
Earlier on Sunday, BNP called the countrywide blockade for three days in protest against arrests of party leaders and activists after violent clashes with police during an antigovernment rally on October 28.
BNP’s like-minded parties and alliances expressed their solidarities with the three-day blockade program.
Jamaat-e-Islami also called the countrywide blockade program after the BNP’s announcement.
