Now Jamaat announces nationwide hartal on Sunday
After BNP, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has now called a day-long hartal nationwide on Sunday protesting the arrests of the party leaders and activists.
The party's Acting Secretary General Mawlana ATM Masum made the announcement in a statement on Saturday.
He said hospitals, ambulances, fire service, vehicles relating to newspapers, and pharmacies will remain out of purview of the hartal.
More than 300 Jamaat men were illegally arrested from different parts of the country to foil its Saturday's grand rally in Dhaka, though holding meeting-procession is a constitutional right of any political party, ATM Masum said.
The Jamaat secretary general sought cooperation from the organization's all-level manpower and countrymen to make the hartal successful.
Earlier this afternoon, BNP announced a dawn-to-dusk hartal across the country on Sunday protesting the attack on its peaceful rally at Nayapaltan in the capital by police and Awami League today.
